Schedule

The Application Process

Applications for Summer 2008 are due March 1, 2008.

Summer Schedule

The Schedule for the REU Site Program corresponds to Binghamton University's Summer Schedule, which is two 5 week sessions separated by one week off around the July 4th holiday. Dorm checkin day is usually Memorial Day, and the last summer session runs through mid-August.

Dates for 2008 are as follows:
First dayTuesday May 27
Mid-Summer Recess: June 28 through July 6
Last dayFriday August 8

It may be possible to accommodate a slightly different schedule if your undergraduate institution overlaps with these dates. Please just let us know.

Research Careers Lecture Series

Once a week, student participants will get to hear and participate in talks, panels, informal discussions, and other organized hour-long meetings and activities. We're calling this the "Research Careers Lecture Series." Details will evolve from year to year, but topics include:
  1. What is ``Research"?
  2. Publishing and Peer Review
  3. External Funding
  4. Life as a Faculty Member
  5. The Tenure Process
  6. Government and Industry Research Labs
  7. Life as a Graduate Student
  8. How to Get a PhD in CS
  9. Preparing for Research Careers
  10. Applying to Graduate Schools
More information will be posted here as the talks and discussions are scheduled for each summer.

Other Activities

We plan to schedule a variety of social events and fun activities throughout each summer. We intend for this experience to help build friendships and professional relationships that will last well beyond the summer. Again, more information about social events will be provided each summer.
